I am way hyped to share this one with you all today. Niko Blank is an artist on the rise – so hop on board now.
If you follow the site, then you have seen us share a few of his recent tunes. He gets us every time – and we’re not the only ones. After releasing the first two singles from his new project and reaching the #1 spot on the SubmitHub Rising Artist Chart, Niko Blank makes it clear that he is on a path to greatness. To be honest…his production is next level. With a clear understanding of music theory, dynamics, arrangements, etc. – it is easy to hear (with every release) the amount of hours he must have spent sitting in front of a computer practicing his craft to get to where he is today. While he may be just another artist in an oversaturated Electronic market, Niko Blank finds a way to cut through the clutter with every track.
Seeing as we can’t get enough of his sound, we were patiently waiting to be able to share his new, “The Frame EP“, and today is the day. A beautiful and impressive release from start to finish, take a listen to the project below and then keep scrolling for a quick Q&A.
RDFO: Who are your musical inspirations?
NB: When I was 13 my mom gave me a pop song book. This sparked my interest about western music like Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross etc… My friends are also good sources for musical inspiration as well, they always give me good energy.
RDFO: With regards to instrumentation if you could only use one plugin for the rest of your life, which would you choose?
NB: I usually start with “Lounge lizard EP” plug in, which is like a Rhoads piano sounding plug in.
RDFO: Who influenced your taste in music most?
NB: Maybe Flume? He really helped me hear how to use synth sounds in my music. He was probably the first artist I heard in Korea making “popular music” a couple years ago… After I heard him I really tried to learn how to make synth sounds and combine them with my music more. The song ‘_______’ is example of this. When I made that song, I imagine synth strings.
RDFO: Have you always wanted to pursue a career in music?
NB: YES, it was always a dream of mine, but with how the music industry is now a days its easier for artists to “start a career” just try to make good music and put it online and see what happens…
RDFO: What was the hardest thing about writing this EP?
NB: Really getting a song “right”… The track ‘Do U’ had almost 30 different versions before the one that you heard on the EP, lots of mixing and instrumentation changes… Besides the 3 weeks when I came out to L.A to work on the EP, I worked mainly with MiSCHiEF BOY via the internet/email/skype so it’s was slower than a “normal” process, but what’s normal nowadays?
RDFO: What are you most proud of?
NB: Making honest music with emotion.
RDFO:If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be?
NB: SG lewis, Kaytranada, Miguel, Yuna, RKCB, and so many others…
RDFO: What was the last song you listened to?
NB: Garden City Movement – She is so un touchable…
RDFO: Where would you like to be in a years time?
NB: I want to go on tour somewhere that I have never experienced before. I want to experience new cultures…
RDFO: How would your perfect day pan out?
NB: Wake up, make some music, take a walk outside for fresh air, make some more music then go out with friends.
