somegirlnamedanna drops her much anticipated debut EP “twenty one, twenty two”

We first covered much buzzed about newcomer somegirlnamedanna in May when she dropped her nostalgic bop “kitchen table”. It was clear that we had a promising new artist in our midst. With the release of her debut EP “twenty one, twenty two”, the sentiment stands.

Four out of five tracks on the EP have also been released as a stand alone single or video, however it’s “monday“, (so far not released as a single) that really grabs me. With its catchy bassline and slightly cheeky (for lack of a better word) themes of casual romance, I think it’s a fun, playful addition to the EP. Another must listen on the EP is “seriously just stop”, a song about a relationship gone awry, which was also recently released as a video.

The upbeat, catchy nature of somegirlnamedanna’s music provides a nice contrast against the vulnerable sentiment behind the songwriting. The EP covers themes love, family, and getting in touch with one’s roots. Anna shares her own thoughts on the EP below:

“twenty one, twenty two represents the journey that the last year has taken me on: the ups and downs, and the love and the heartbreak. To me, this ep has been about self-discovery and the path to self-acceptance. I think it’s easy to forget that people are not living the perfect lives portrayed on social media, and these songs were inspired by the real challenges and downswings that many of us face behind the screen. I want people to remember they are not alone in these times and I hope we continue to display our vulnerabilities and traits that make us human in popular culture.”

All in all, “twenty one, twenty two” is a solid first EP from an undeniably talented artist to watch. You can stream the EP on Spotify below.
