On the EP, Dugong Jr explains; ‘Pleasure Principle’ was really about trying to get back to my roots as an experimental electronic producer. Not setting out to create genre-defined music, and just doing what felt exciting in the moment, pursuing the ‘Pleasure Principle’. I was extremely fortunate to be able to pick a handful of my favorite artists in Australia to work on this project with, each who I really respect for their own individuality and tendency not to shy away from more experimental ideas. This year has been very challenging for most, me included, but I’m super proud of this project and really excited for it to be out there in the world.’
Engaging with a sense of scrappy innovation, Chinese/Australian multidisciplinary creative Dugong Jr exudes DIY culture with an extreme attention to detail. An art school graduate and graphic artist, his music infuses a conscious decision to focus on the gritty and imperfect elements of electronica.
After making his global debut in 2015 on the influential Moving Castle Collective (spawning the likes of Jai Wolf, Chet Porter, Manilla Killa and LIZ), the young creative has amassed streams in the tens of millions, leading to shows across the globe in Los Angeles, Toronto, Washington DC and Auckland while performing on some of Australia’s biggest festival stages including Splendour In The Grass and Groovin The Moo.
His emphasis on authenticity and creative freedom has led to support from a long list of renowned industry stalwarts including Diplo, Steve Aoki and Machinedrum. The release of his new EP Pleasure Principle sees Dugong Jr consolidate an already massive year, with the artist rapidly creating a legacy of originality and innovation.
