Since first discovering almost monday through their debut single, “broken people“, just a couple of months ago, I have been patiently waiting to see what was next – and their latest tune, “parking lot view”, was well worth the wait. Comprised of long time friends Dawson Daugherty (vocals), and Luke Fabry (bass), with third member Cole Clisby (guitar), whom the duo had met while surfing, joining the lineup, almost monday find their stride creating wavy Pop jams that are as playful as they are poignant.
With influences ranging from Oasis and The 1975 to Frank Ocean, almost monday pull from a wide range of their favorite artists to create a sound all their own. Through catchy melodies and tongue in cheek lyrics, the group use a bit satire and a lot of groove to touch on current events and social issues that come with being a young adult in the new era. On their new single, “parking lot view”, incredibly clean production, brain penetrating melodies and an undeniable vibe take hold from the very beginning and never let go as the tune develops.
Tackling the tribulations that a young artist may face on the road, the despair is cleverly hidden behind a call for love. Wild and free, almost monday are quickly carving a lane of their own and showing the world what they are made of – thanks in part to the official videos they are releasing along with each single. Having only recently launched the project yet having already landed gigs at festivals like SXSW, Governor’s Ball, and Bottlerock, there is no doubt that almost monday is on to something – and I am totally here for it.
