Young Toronto artist, AVIV, is making music well beyond her years. The 15-year-old singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist grew up surrounded by music, drawing influence from some of the biggest names in the game. Every Saturday, while other families were perusing the mall, AVIV and her four siblings would be perusing the record store shelves, picking up records from artists like Fleetwood Mac, Radiohead, and more. At just 6 years of age, she was studying piano, and finding her voice, eventually growing into guitar. Some of her musical influences that emerged during high school were superstars like Lorde, Lana Del Rey, and Clairo. It is clear that the introspective, deep, nature of the music from the artists that AVIV loves has rubbed off, on her own musical talents.
"You Feel Like Depression" sounds like an innocent and sweet POP song collided, at blistering speed, with a 90's Alt/Grunge banger. A dreamy, ice cream shop melody, leads sophisticatedly written verses to a crunchy and dark chorus, that sizzles. The single deals with feelings of self-guilt, self-blame, and an ultimate feeling of failure in a relationship. It also deals with the exacerbation of those feelings, when the person you have ended said relationship with, blames YOU, for it's end.
To spite being merely 15 years old, AVIV, has managed to tie together her music with excellent production, writing, and a performance that makes her feel more like a 25 year old artists, than a teenager. Even her outlook on her music is mature beyond her years. When push comes to shove, AVIV reminds you of feelings that you never want to forget, with her music. The young artist says, "If my song takes you somewhere emotional, there’s nothing better to me ......... Or, if it makes you answer a question you’ve had about your life, that would be amazing. My songs make me answer my own questions. When I release them, I hope they do the same thing for you." There will certainly be much more to look forward to from this phenom artists, as her career progresses!
