Serving as BRKN BLVD’s fifteenth single in just over 2 years, “Settle,” is a tune sure to pull at the heart strings. Over a clean, dynamic, acoustic production, BRKN BLVD pours his heart out as he speaks directly to the love he’d never planned on losing. With gritty, energetic vocals sitting front and center, “Settle,” remains quite minimal throughout, ensuring that every word cuts deep. Like every previous release (and every release to come), BRKN BLVD’s latest offering has once again proven his worth as songwriter, continuously penning tunes that touch the soul and connect with the masses in an incredibly authentic, accessible, and human level.
When asked about the new single, BRKN BLVD says, “This one has been fucking me up inside since the night I wrote it. Yet another love song (sorry I really love LOVE), “Settle,” comes from a place of acceptance more than anything. We’ve all been in love – and we’ve all fallen out of love. “Settle,” is about moving on and letting go – no matter how much it hurts – in hopes that the person you are watching walk away will finally find what they have always been looking for. In all aspects of life, I truly do hope that everyone I love is as happy as they can possibly be – even if it costs me a piece of my heart/soul along the way. Just because we fall out of love, it doesn’t mean the love is lost. If you need me, I will be there – no questions asked.”
Having written 500+ songs in the last 18 years, “Settle,” stands as one of BRKN BLVD’s personal top ten favorite songs he’s ever written. While he may have been born and raised in New York (and generally has an aversion to Country music), his latest offering brings along an unexpected, but totally welcome twang that we haven’t heard before and are unlikely to hear again from BRKN BLVD. More than a year since the first, “Settle,” demo was recorded, the final product was a true team effort, with several RDFO collaborators hopping on board to add to the magic. Written and performed by BRKN BLVD, the production was started by Alex Bondarev (Conversing with Oceans) and finalized by Corey Phillips (ColorMind), who also hopped on the last hook alongside Jamar Rogers to add some extra vocal layers. Although BRKN BLVD had stepped away from production to focus on writing when launching the project, when, “Settle,” called for some harmonica, he figured it was as good a time as any to have some fun; so he bought a harmonica, drove around playing it along to the instrumental for a few days and – TADA.
