UK based Indie Pop trio KOATES have been able to make some pretty major things happen in a relatively short time. James Coates (Vocals / Guitar), Jojo Macari (Bass / Backing Vocals) and Joe Perkins (Drums) only came together as a band last year – yet since releasing their debut single, “Escalators”, in May of this year the have been able to land support from Steve Lamacq, Radio X and BBC Introducing London – as well as selling out a series of shows at the Sebright Arms, performing a sell-out headline show at The Lexington and landing a performance at The Great Escape as “Best Newcomer.”
Most recently, the buzzing band has unleashed their second single, “The Right Place”, produced by Gary Go (Rihanna, Robbie Williams, Take That, The 2 Bears, Juliette Lewis). Additionally, they have also released an official video for the anthemic Alt-Pop gem that only helps to bring this one to life. With a sound that they say is like, “the love-child of a menage a trios with Mac Demarco, The Police and Fleetwood Mac,” KOATES are able to bring a familiar feel with a new, updated groove.
Over a pumping, dynamic, guitar laden production, KOATES are able to create a memorable tune that can work the world over. The beautifully shot music video helps listeners get a better look at the groups aesthetic via captivating close ups and energetic performance clips. While KOATES may just be getting started, I have no doubt they will be making a major impact if they can keep pumping out jams like this.
