Hailing from Minnesota and formed in 2009, New Medicine is a four piece rock band consisting of members, Jake Scherer (vocals/guitar), Matt Brady (bass), Dan Garland (guitar), and Ryan Guanzon (drums). To date, the band has released two full albums in 2011 and 2014, respectively. Both albums have found success, leading New Medicine to a strong following, amassing over 65 million streams on Spotify, from their sophomore album, alone. After the release of their second album, the band took a hiatus in 2015, but has since returned to the studio to work on a new EP, for release in 2022. Since, the band have released three new singles, including "Life Like This".
An energetic, post-grunge, fuel filled, rock song, "Life Like This" is a lifestyle anthem for the party rockers. Blazing guitars and a rock-steady 4/4 help the head to bang, while angsty lyrics and a punk rock vibe make the body want to move. "Life Like This" is the sonic embodiment of sex, drugs, and Rock & Roll. The song is a declaration for a life of partying, made clear by the lyrics, "and if I die, at least i tried TO BE ALIVE".
With their single, New Medicine portray a steely-sharp rock attitude, as well as ,hard rock chops. There is no question what genre these boys are living in. The song literally rocks, and leaves you wanting more. In a time where most "rock" is relegated to indie or alternative, these four musicians are delivering some good-ol', solid, rock...for the soul.
