Since its founding in 2017, The Music Matters has evolved from a modest blog into one of New York’s most committed champions of underground artistry. This spring, the platform returns with a thoughtfully curated, two-night live music experience at Brooklyn’s Our Wicked Lady, offering an unfiltered glimpse into the vibrancy and diversity of the city’s independent music scene.
May 2 & May 3 | Our Wicked Lady | 153 Morgan Ave, BrooklynDoors at 7:00 PM | Tickets available via the venue or Dice
Curated by founder Marc Seligman, these evenings will feature a handpicked roster of emerging and established acts—each representing a distinct thread in the rich tapestry of Brooklyn’s musical landscape. Attendees can expect performances that span genre and tone, unified by a shared commitment to artistry and authenticity.
Adding a unique dimension to the weekend’s programming, a CBGB-inspired audition showcase will take place on the afternoon of May 3 at 2:00 PM. This intimate, early-day performance will feature five rising artists and is free for those who arrive before 2:30 PM with a ticket secured via Dice—an homage to the legendary spontaneity of New York’s music history.
In tandem with the performances, attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in a pop-up confessional booth, a video installation designed to collect stories, reflections, and personal connections to the scene. These testimonials will form the emotional core of an upcoming feature-length documentary, which will interweave concert footage and interviews into a cinematic portrait of the community that sustains New York’s indie spirit. A fall release on DVD is anticipated.
The event follows last year’s sold-out showcase at Arlene’s Grocery, where 14 bands were documented for a nostalgic VHS release—an artifact now cherished by collectors and fans alike.
The Music Matters continues to stand as a living archive of New York’s underground culture—a testament to the voices, venues, and visionaries who refuse to be forgotten.
Join us, lend your voice, and bear witness to a scene still very much alive.
